Raipur, 12 February 2025: According to the time schedule program released by the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, the Municipal Election 2025 was held on the scheduled date 11 February 2025 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Elections were held in one phase for 173 urban bodies including 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils and 114 nagar panchayats of the state. The total number of voters for the urban body election is 44 lakh 75 thousand 703. Out of which, according to the data received from all the districts, the average voting in the state was 72.48%. Counting of votes is to be completed on 15 February 2025. The municipal general election was conducted with the voting machine EVM. State Election Commission officials said that 12 thousand 500 control units and 22 thousand 650 ballot units were used during the voting. According to the information received from the State Election Commission, the candidates for the post of president were elected unopposed in Nagar Panchayat Basna District-Mahasamund. And a total of 31 candidates for the post of councilor were elected unopposed in the general election and 02 in the by-election.
During the election, information was received about replacement of voting machine due to malfunction in 01 district Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, 01 district Gariaband, 03 district Janjgir Champa, 05 district Dantewada, 03 district Mahasamund, 03 district Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 05 district Surajpur and 02 district Mungeli. The Commission took action on 160 different complaints on violation of Model Code of Conduct. The average voting percentage in all the districts was 72.48 and no information was received about any untoward incident occurring during voting in any area. A total of 7 thousand 879 Election Duty Ballot Papers (EDB) were received from the polling personnel (male-female) engaged in the election. Voting was conducted peacefully and in a harmonious atmosphere. Information was received about long queues at some polling booths till late evening. State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh expressed his gratitude to all the officers, employees, police, political parties, candidates and voters involved in this election.
