Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya felicitates men's hockey team

The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s hockey team returned home from Paris on Saturday. The team was given a grand welcome on its return to India and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the team members. The Indian hockey team defeated Spain 2-1 to win the bronze medal at the Olympics for the second consecutive time. The men’s hockey team had earlier won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics as well.

Mandaviya lauded the players’ dedication and hard work and said that their outstanding performance on the global stage has filled the whole country with pride. Mandaviya said, “You have brought great pride to India and inspired lakhs of young players to pursue their dreams. The whole country is proud of your achievement. This victory is a testament to your perseverance, teamwork and indomitable spirit. You have brought great pride to India and inspired lakhs of young athletes to fulfill their dreams.

The Union Minister also lauded the tireless efforts of the coaching staff and support team who played a key role in the team’s success. He reiterated the government’s commitment to provide all necessary support to promote hockey further in India and nurture the sporting talent of the country. Mandaviya said, “Hockey is more than just a sport for us. It is a symbol of our national pride. This historic success has been achieved due to the hard work, commitment and passion displayed by the team. You have shown the world what can be achieved with determination and high spirits.”
