Bhopal: Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that to eliminate sickle cell, special attention should be paid to genetic counseling after screening. He said that sickle cell screening of 12 lakh people has been done in Dhar district, out of which about 25 hundred people have been found positive. Sickle cell positive people should be advised not to marry each other. Governor Shri Patel said this in the program of the campaign being run for the elimination of sickle cell disease. The program was organized as part of the awareness campaign in Dhar district. The guests and the general public also listened to the “Mann Ki Baat” program of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Governor Shri Patel said that medicines have been made available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras through the Ayush Department. He advised those who tested positive to take medicines regularly and exercise, eat easily digestible food, not to bathe in cold water and drink plenty of water. He stressed on the availability of medicines at all stores and the need for doctors to spread public awareness.
Governor Shri Patel appreciated the work being done by public representatives and officials in the field of sickle cell and thanked them. He appreciated the exhibition organized in the program. The Governor also urged everyone to visit it.
Higher Education and Ayush Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar said that in the campaign launched by the Governor, efforts are being made to eradicate sickle cell through Ayurveda and Homeopathy medical systems. He said that awareness campaign will also be run among students and a resolution has been taken to make the state completely free from this disease by 2047.
Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri DD Uikey praised the Governor and said that understanding the pain of this disease, he is working for its eradication in the entire state, especially in the direction of all-round development of the tribal community.
Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur said that as per the wishes of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, sickle cell screening has been done door-to-door in Dhar district. She called upon all public representatives to join this work as a social service.
Five children present at the program shared their experiences of screening done in their school and hostel with Governor Shri Patel. The children told that they have got relief from this disease due to free medicines provided by the hospital. During the program, people who made a significant contribution in sickle cell screening and tuberculosis control were honored.
