Single button operation for gate signal at level crossings located in automatic signaling sections
Raipur. In recent years, there has been significant progress in the implementation of automatic signaling in South East Central Railway and now modern and advanced signaling systems have been installed in many sections here.
Earlier, to give signal at the level crossing gates, the signal button given for each line was rotated every time, due to which there was a possibility of delay in train operation. This traditional signaling button and operation was also a bit challenging for the gateman. To overcome these problems, the Drawing and Design Section of the Signal and Telecommunication Department of South East Central Railway Headquarters has introduced an unprecedented innovation under the leadership of Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer. This innovation has received the first rank of ‘Best Innovation’ for the third quarter of the financial year 2023-24 by the General Manager of South East Central Railway. The objective of this new innovation is to increase the efficiency in level crossing gate operation, so that the speed of the train can be smooth and there is no delay in operation. This system has been installed at 03 level crossings of Urga Road – Korba section of South East Central Railway, 02 level crossings of Korba-Kusmunda section and 01 level crossing of Bhilai-Bhilai Nagar and work is in progress to install this system at other level crossings.
*Benefits of this new system:*
1. The new single-button operation will ensure smooth and timely train operations. This will also ensure savings in travel time.
2. By simplifying the operation process, the risk of human errors is greatly reduced. This also ensures the safety of trains, passengers and road users along with the level crossings.
3. There is no additional cost to implement this in-house developed system.
4. With streamlined operation, the gates can be managed more efficiently, which will ensure less disruption and less waiting time for vehicles and pedestrians at the level crossings.
5. With simplified process, gatemen can concentrate more on passing trains, thereby ensuring safety of trains.
6. In sections with multiple lines, this innovation will ease traffic management, thereby improving overall mobility in heavy traffic.
7. Both those travelling by trains and those crossing the level crossings will benefit from smooth operation and safety, making their journey more comfortable and stress-free.
This innovative solution reflects South East Central Railway’s commitment to enhance the efficiency and safety of train operations. Implementation of single-button operation for gate signals at level crossings will play a vital role in modernizing railway operations and providing a safer, punctual and more reliable railway network for all.
