Shamsi was making fun of Suryakumar’s catch
South African spinner Tabrez Shamsi has been slammed by fans for mocking Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Suryakumar took a crucial catch of David Miller on the boundary line in the 20th over in the final and helped India win the trophy. However, there was a lot of uproar over this catch. Some fans questioned Suryakumar’s catch, while some fans called it legitimate.
Two months after this final, Shamsi shared a video in which the fielder takes a close catch on the boundary line. However, to check whether the catch has been taken correctly or not, the batsman runs towards the boundary line and uses the rope to check whether the fielder has stepped on the boundary line or not. After a long inspection and controversy, it was found that the catch was not clear so the batsman was given not out. In the caption of this video, Shamsi sarcastically wrote that this method should have been used during Suryakumar Yadav’s catch as well. In such a situation, the decision could have been in Miller’s favor. Shamsi wrote on his ex account, ‘If the match officials had used this method to check the catch in the World Cup final, he would probably have been not out.’
