Salman Khan ‘Sikander’: A blockbuster opening on Eid, but will it become a blockbuster?

Salman Khan’s film ‘Sikander’ released on Eid and the initial collection surprised everyone. However, after the initial excitement, many questions are being raised about the film’s future performance.

Great opening day – ‘Sikander’ collected Rs 30 crore on the first day, which was much more than expected. Trade pundits expected the film to earn around Rs 22-25 crore. This great opening excited everyone and expectations increased that the film would prove to be a blockbuster. The film got a slight jump on the second day and earned around Rs 29 crore (till the time of writing the report). This took the total collection of the film in two days to Rs 59 crore. However, the occupancy on the second day was only 24.60%, which is a bit disappointing.

Effect of leak and word of mouth – One of the reasons for the film’s low earnings is also being said to be the leak of the film. According to trade analyst Komal Nahta, about 6000 copies of the film were leaked on piracy websites before its release. Although the makers tried to get many copies removed, the damage was too much. Now it is hoped that the film will benefit from word of mouth. If ‘Sikander’ flops, then questions may arise on Salman Khan’s stardom as well. Although some of his previous films have earned well at the box office, they mostly do not fall in the category of hits or blockbusters. Therefore, the performance of ‘Sikander’ is very important for his career. ‘Sikander’ stars Salman Khan along with Rashmika Mandanna, Sharman Joshi, Sathyaraj, Prateik Babbar and Kajal Aggarwal. The film is directed by A.R. Murugadoss.
