Russian President Vladimir Putin meets Xi Jinping

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Thursday to meet his Chinese President Xi Jinping. He wants China to support the ongoing war in Ukraine.

This is Putin’s first foreign visit during his tenure. He was re-elected in March. He had also gone to China about six months ago. The President of Russia went to China for a two-day state visit. Xi Jinping, who returned last week from a three-nation tour of Europe, rejected criticism of Beijing’s ties with Moscow, cheap Russian energy imports and access to vast natural resources, including non-shipments located through the Power of Siberia pipeline.

Russian political analyst says that Putin’s visit to China is to enhance China-Russia relations. Although both the leaders have not clearly talked about friendship. He said that both the leaders want to talk about comprehensive partnership and strategic partnership during the meeting. On the one hand, China claims to be a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict. On the other hand, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing said that the two leaders will exchange views on “bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields and international and regional issues of common interest”.
