Reservation list for local body elections released; both opposition and ruling party leaders are raising questions.
Questions Arise About Reservations for Local Body Elections In Uttarakhand, people are eagerly waiting for the dates of the local body elections. Meanwhile, the government has announced reservations for these bodies. However, the government has also invited objections to the reservations within seven days which will then be addressed. During this time, several leaders from the BJP have raised concerns about the reservations that have been issued. What the Chief Minister Said About the Leaders’ Objections BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan from Vikasnagar has expressed his objection to the position of the chairperson of the Vikas Nagar municipality being reserved for a woman from the Scheduled Castes. Additionally, leaders from the Congress party are also questioning the reservations in various areas. However, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that there are specific rules governing reservations, and they are determined according to these rules. The Chief Minister explained that a commission is formed for this purpose, and reservations are set based on its report. It’s not feasible to decide reservations everywhere based on individual preferences. Objections have been invited regarding the reservations, and these will be resolved before a final decision is made.
Announcement of Election Dates After Resolving Objections While the Chief Minister addressed the issue of reservations, Urban Development Minister Premchand Agarwal mentioned that objections regarding reservations have been invited. Anyone with concerns can submit their objections. The dates for the elections will be announced for the local bodies immediately after the objections are resolved.
