Research at Kalinga University: Lotus Silk Thread and Fabric as first Aquafiber in Chhattisgarh

It is in this context that Dr. Vineeta Dewan, Professor, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Kalinga University, has successfully extracted and developed Lotus Yarn, an aquafibre also known as Lotus Silk and used in a variety of applications in the textile and fashion industry. Used in fabric.
Dr. Diwan is the first person to work on and develop lotus thread in the state of Chhattisgarh and decided to produce the thread in bulk, as the state has abundance of ponds, wetlands which are filled with lotus throughout the year. Yarn making is a completely handmade process and is highly sought after in the fashion industry, where it is considered one of the most exclusive and expensive fabrics due to its breathable, light weight, airy and composite nature. In development and manufacturing of yarn, Dr. Diwan has conducted two training sessions at Charoda Dharsiwa and Shyamnagar Gariaband under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Skill Development Program in collaboration with Directorate of Khadi Village Industries, Chhattisgarh. Finished threads are available for sale in the market for weavers to make both mixed and pure fabrics.
