Record rise in stock market, Sensex jumps

Indian benchmark equity indices hit new heights on Thursday. The 30-share Sensex opened above 80,300 for the first time with a jump of about 314 points. On the other hand, the Nifty50 index rose 0.35% to 24,369. ICICI Bank rose more than 100 points on the BSE. ICICI Bank, HCL Tech and M&M opened 1.5% stronger in the Sensex. At the same time, HDFC Bank, HUL and IndusInd Bank weakened by 1.3%. Nifty IT recorded a gain of 1%. Coforge and Persistent Systems gained more than 2%.

Nifty auto, metal and realty sector stocks strengthened by 0.5%. Among single stocks, Kaya shares jumped by 10%. The company has announced a collaboration with Marico for the sales and marketing of its personal care products. Shares of ITD Cementation fell 6.7% following reports of promoter stake sale. Asian markets on Thursday saw stocks hit a 27-month high as soft US employment data dampened the prospect of an interest rate cut in September. Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.4%.
