Rakhi trade estimated to be worth Rs 12,000 crore
Rakshabandhan, the festival of love between brothers and sisters, will be celebrated on Monday, August 19. Traders estimate that the market can do business worth about Rs 12,000 crore in this one-day festival alone. Last year, Rakhi did a business worth about Rs 10,000 crore. Good business can bring new vibrancy to the market. The festival season will begin with Rakhi. After this, Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Dussehra, Deepawali will begin. Traders estimate that during this time people will shop a lot and the market will start running, which will benefit everyone.
The apex organization of traders, Confederation of All India Traders (CAT), has said that this year, festive trade worth more than Rs 12,000 crore is expected across the country on the festival of Rakhi. There is a huge rush of Rakhi buyers in the markets and people are also very enthusiastic about the festival. For the last several years, only indigenous rakhis are being sold in the country and this year too, there was neither much demand for Chinese rakhis nor were Chinese rakhis seen in the market.

CAT’s National President BC Bhartia said that special types of rakhis have been made this year. These include Khadi rakhi made in Nagpur, Sanganeri art rakhi in Jaipur, seed rakhi in Pune, woolen rakhi in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, bamboo rakhi made from tribal items, tea leaf rakhi in Assam, jute rakhi in Kolkata, silk rakhi in Mumbai, date palm rakhi in Kerala, pearl rakhi in Kanpur, Madhubani and Maithili art rakhi in Bihar, soft stone rakhi in Pondicherry, Bengaluru flower rakhi etc. At the same time, tricolor rakhi, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam rakhi, Bharat Mata rakhi etc. showing pride of the country are included, which are in great demand. Apart from this, designer rakhis and silver rakhis are also being sold in the market.
