Raipur Municipal Corporation’s Initiative for Reuse of Treated Water from STP Gains Industrial Interest

MoU Executed for 13 MLD Treated Water, Pipeline Installation by Alok Ferro Alloys Limited Completed

Raipur: Municipal Corporation has undertaken significant measures to promote the reuse of treated water from its Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), attracting continuous interest from various industrial groups. An MoU has been executed for utilizing 13 MLD of treated water, with Alok Ferro Alloys Limited completing the pipeline installation to draw 4 MLD treated water from the Nimora STP. Maa Kudargarhi Power & Ispat Pvt. Ltd. has started using treated water via tankers, while API Ispat and Powertech Pvt. Ltd. will soon execute an MoU for utilizing 5 MLD treated water from the same STP. Additionally, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is utilizing 1 lakh liters of treated water daily for road and landscaping purposes. These initiatives will contribute to the conservation of approximately 40 lakh liters of water per day and generate an annual revenue of around ₹84 lakh for the Raipur Municipal Corporation.

Raipur Municipal Corporation’s Full-Scale Operation of STPs Raipur Municipal Corporation operates its STPs at full capacity for wastewater management and reuse of treated water. It has four major STPs: Nimora (90 MLD), Chandnidi (75 MLD), Kara (35 MLD), and Bhatagaon (6 MLD), with a combined capacity of 206 MLD. On average, these STPs treat 179 MLD of sewage daily. This proactive effort has drawn positive discussions with industrial groups, including Raipur Energy Limited (Adani Power) in Tilda and NSPCL Bhilai, facilitated by Central Electricity Ministry officials.

Municipal authorities have informed that an MoU with Alok Ferro Alloys Limited was signed on June 19, 2024. The industry commenced pipeline installation for 4 MLD treated water on August 24, 2024, and the work is now complete. Within a week, Alok Ferro Alloys Limited will start drawing treated water from the STP. Earlier, on January 2, 2024, an MoU was signed with Brijesh Steel Limited for 7 MLD treated water. The industry is conducting pipeline surveys and preparing the DPR. Similarly, Maa Kudargarhi Power & Ispat Pvt. Ltd. signed an MoU on November 3, 2023, and has started taking treated water via tankers. The industry is also preparing the DPR for pipeline installation.

At the Bhatagaon STP, NHAI is utilizing 1 lakh liters of treated water daily for road construction and landscaping. A pre-feasibility report for supplying 18 MLD treated water to NSPCL Bhilai has been submitted by the Municipal Corporation, and a draft MoU was sent on March 14, 2024. Upon board approval, the MoU process will proceed. Raipur Energy Limited (Adani Power) has conducted inspections and sampling for utilizing 68 MLD treated water for its capacity expansion in Tilda. A detailed report has been sent to the Central Industrial Ministry, and the MoU process will commence after receiving directions from the ministry.

Successful Execution of Alok Ferro Alloys Limited MoU Marks Significant Progress The implementation of the June 19, 2024, MoU with Alok Ferro Alloys Limited allows the daily industrial reuse of 4 MLD treated water from Nimora STP at ₹6,000 per MLD. This initiative will generate an annual revenue of approximately ₹84 lakh for the Raipur Municipal Corporation and conserve 40 lakh liters of water daily, previously sourced from groundwater and rivers for industrial use.

Strategic Initiatives Under Visionary Leadership In line with the directives of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao, Raipur District Administration, in collaboration with Raipur Smart City Limited, is advancing numerous public welfare initiatives. These efforts, guided by District Collector Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh and Municipal Commissioner Shri Abinash Mishra, aim to fulfill the government’s social and environmental goals.

Environmental Protection Through Innovative Measures As a notable achievement, Raipur Municipal Corporation, in partnership with Alok Ferro Alloys Limited (a unit of Hira Group), will provide 4 MLD treated water daily from Nimora STP for industrial use. The company will bear the cost of pipeline and filtration system installation to transport the water from Kara and Nimora STPs to its plant. This collaboration will generate ₹84 lakh annually for the Municipal Corporation and ensure the conservation of 40 lakh liters of water daily. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of sustainable development and efficient resource utilization. Through these strategic measures, Raipur Municipal Corporation has paved the way for environmental protection and sustainable water reuse, setting a benchmark in resource conservation and public welfare.
