Police Take Major Action Against Landlords for Not Verifying Tenants; 68 Landlords Fined ₹6,80,000

November 24, 2024:  Ayush Agarwal, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Tehri Garhwal, issued instructions to all police station heads in the district to conduct a verification campaign. Following these directives, a verification drive for external individuals was carried out today under the guidance of the Additional Superintendent of Police and the area officer in Narendra Nagar.

The officer in charge, Inspector Munni Ki Reti, led the verification efforts in the Tapovan area, covering locations like Balak Nath Road, SBI Gali, Hotel Peepal Tree Road, Laxman Jhula Road, and Upper Tapovan, starting at 6:30 AM.As part of this campaign, four teams were formed at the police station level. The police verified a total of 400 to 450 individuals, including tenants and outsiders. As a result, 68 landlords who failed to conduct the necessary verifications were fined ₹10,000 each, totaling ₹6,80,000.

These fines will be submitted to the honorable court.The public has been reminded multiple times about the importance of verifying tenants, yet many landlords still neglected this responsibility, leading to these fines. The police have advised the community to ensure that any outsiders they rent to or hire for work in hotels are properly verified to prevent any unexpected incidents in the future. In the coming days, the police will continue to take action against those who do not comply in areas like Dhalwala, Tapovan, and Kailash Gate.The police team included Sub-Inspector Nandkishore, in charge of the Bhadrakali outpost, Sub-Inspector Manoj Mamgai from Shivpuri, Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar, Women Sub-Inspector Deepika Tiwari, and Additional Sub-Inspector Deepak Rawat.
