Payments started with RuPay card in Maldives

Payments with RuPay card have started in Maldives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu witnessed the first such transaction. During this, Prime Minister Modi said that RuPay card was launched in Maldives a few days ago. In the coming time, India and Maldives will be connected through UPI.

Apart from this, both of them inaugurated the runway of Hanimadhoo International Airport in Maldives through virtual medium. India also handed over more than 700 social housing units built with its cooperation to Maldives. With this, many important agreements were signed between India and Maldives. All the decisions, foundation stone laying and inauguration were taken after the meeting of PM Modi and Moizzu at Hyderabad House.

What did PM Modi say?

During this, PM Modi said that the relations between India and Maldives are centuries old. India is the closest neighbor and close friend country of Maldives. Maldives has an important place in our Neighborhood First Policy and Sagar Vision. We discussed in detail various aspects of defense and security cooperation. India, Maldives discussed opening of Indian Consulate in Addu and Maldives Consulate in Bengaluru. Apart from this, work on Ektha Harbor Project is going on at a fast pace. We will work together for stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region. Maldives is welcome to join the Colombo Security Conclave as a founding member.
