Raipur, 19 November 2024: On the occasion of World Toilet Day, a program was organized today at the Deputy Chief Minister’s residence office on the theme of ‘Our Toilet, Our Honor’ under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. The objective of the program was to spread awareness among rural communities about the importance of cleanliness and toilet use.
Addressing the program, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the successful Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, vowing to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India, launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2 October 2014. This vow of the Honorable Prime Minister has become the vow of the entire nation today. In order to give the construction of a clean India the form of a people’s revolution, the campaign is being celebrated across the nation from 19 November 2024, World Toilet Day to 10 December 2024, Human Rights Day. This campaign is being celebrated on the theme of our toilet, our respect. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, our government is committed to ensure that no family in the rural area is without a toilet. He said that in Phase-2 of Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), our state is continuously moving towards becoming an ODF Plus model state, for which the work of collecting garbage from every house is being done through the sisters of Swachhagrahi groups.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the foundation stone of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin has been laid to end the evil practice of open defecation. Open defecation pollutes water and soil, which spreads many types of diseases. The use of personal toilets reduces these diseases. Women had to go out of the house to defecate in the open, which put a question mark on their dignity and safety. Individual toilets have freed them from this inconvenience. There is no need to go out at night or in adverse conditions, which has increased the confidence of women. Cleanliness is maintained in the environment around the village, which controls the spread of diseases.
Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sharma said that the use of individual toilets is not just a personal facility, but it is a revolutionary step towards making the entire society healthy, clean and empowered. Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) has explained the importance of cleanliness in rural India and has brought a positive change in the lifestyle of the people. This initiative will be helpful in providing a healthy and clean environment not only for the current generation but also for the future generations.
So far, more than 36 lakh families of the state have been provided with individual toilet facilities. At the same time, 13137 community toilets have been constructed in rural areas. Solid waste management system has been established in 16,167 villages. Structures for disposal of dirty water have been constructed in 18,659 villages.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sharma distributed acceptance letter for individual toilet to 5 beneficiaries and cleanliness kit to 5 Swachhagrahi sisters. A large number of public representatives, sarpanchs and officials from the districts participated virtually in the program.
