Online sales of 55000 crores in one week of festivals
There is a lot of shopping from online platforms during the festive season. Online platforms have sold goods worth 55,000 crores in a week. This is 26 percent more than last year. The most purchased online is mobile phones, consumer durables, electronics and general merchandise. Their contribution in total sales is three-fourths.
About 55 percent of the sales in this year’s festive season have been done since September 26. Last year, the value of online purchases during festivals was $ 9.7 billion. This time it can increase by 23 percent to $ 12 billion. Small towns and cities have a large share of buyers. Some brands said that demand is coming more than supply.
Demand increased by 40 percent on an annual basis
The annual festive season sales of Flipkart, Meesho and Amazon India have started from September 26. Meesho said sales grew 40% year-on-year. This jump came from strong demand from tier II cities. About 45% of the buyers came from tier IV cities and beyond.
More emphasis on smaller cities
Flipkart says that along with big cities, there is also strong demand from customers in tier II areas like Medinipur, Hisar, Berhampur, Bankura and Agartala. For some years, festive sales start earlier. When the online platform started the sale, sales were very fast. It slowed down on the last day.
