The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to take place in Pakistan, but due to the Indian team refusing to travel to Pakistan, the tournament’s schedule has yet to be announced, and discussions are underway regarding changing the venue.
With less than 100 days to go before the Champions Trophy kicks off, the official schedule for the tournament is still pending. The main reason for this delay is India’s decision not to participate in the tournament in Pakistan. Following the BCCI’s refusal, the ICC has continued discussions with other teams about the Champions Trophy schedule. There are also reports suggesting that the tournament may be held at a different venue outside of Pakistan, and a significant update on this front has emerged. The ICC is considering a hybrid model for the tournament after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan. However, reports indicate that the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) is not in agreement with this model. If the PCB backs out, South Africa could be given the chance to host the tournament. During the ICC meeting held on November 12, there was no discussion about changing the venue. Previously, on November 11, the ICC was supposed to announce the official schedule for the Champions Trophy in Lahore, but that event was canceled. PTI reports that the PCB is firmly against holding the Champions Trophy matches outside of the country, including in the UAE.The PCB has sent a letter to the ICC requesting a written explanation regarding the reasons behind the BCCI’s decision not to send the Indian team to Pakistan. In this letter, the PCB stated that there are no security issues in Pakistan, as England and New Zealand have successfully toured the country in the past. As of now, the ICC has not responded to the PCB’s letter. India is open to playing in the tournament under a hybrid model, which could involve matches being held in either the UAE or Sri Lanka.
