NSPCL will reuse 18 million liters of treated water daily from Chandandih Sewage Treatment Plant

MoU signed between NSPCL Bhilai and Raipur Municipal Corporation
* Important step towards ‘Amrit’ and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ground Water Conservation Mission under the leadership of Mayor and Corporation Commissioner
(24 May 2025, Raipur): NSPCL Bhilai and Raipur Municipal Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under this, NSPCL will use 18 million liters of treated water per day from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located at Chandandih. This important MoU has been signed under the leadership of Raipur Mayor Mrs. Meenal Choubey and Corporation Commissioner Mr. Vishwadeep under the leadership of the Chief Minister of the state Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Urban Administration and Development Department Shri Arun Saw. Its objective is to contribute to water and environmental conservation by using treated water for industrial purposes. This MoU was signed at the Bhilai office of NSPCL on Saturday. The MoU was signed and exchanged in the presence of Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Mr. Vinod Pandey, Executive Engineer Mr. Anshul Sharma, Swachh Bharat Mission Assistant Engineer Mr. Yogesh Kadu, NSPCL Business Unit Head Mr. Neel Kumar Sharma and GM Mr. Alok Singh. It is worth mentioning that NSPCL is a joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Steel Authority of India (SAIL).
Important step towards water conservation and groundwater enrichment: The detailed project report (DPR) of this project will be prepared soon. After this, the work of laying the pipeline will begin, the cost of which will be borne by NSPCL. This initiative will prove to be an important step towards Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Groundwater Enhancement Mission. This initiative will reduce NSPCL’s dependence on fresh and sweet water sources and groundwater. It is worth mentioning that the capacity of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located at Chandandih is 75 million liters per day. This is a big step taken by the corporation towards treating the dirty water flowing through drains and rivers and providing it to industrial units. This will prevent the water of rivers and drains from getting contaminated.
