Now drone monitoring in Kanwar Yatra 2025, high-tech preparation for disaster management in Haridwar

Uttarakhand’s High-Tech Approach to Kanwar Yatra Safety-This year, Uttarakhand is pulling out all the stops to ensure a safe and smooth Kanwar Yatra. With the help of technology and a well-coordinated effort, they aim to manage the massive crowds and prevent any mishaps.

Drone Surveillance: Keeping an Eye on the Crowds-The state is deploying a high-tech drone, nicknamed ‘Nabh Netra,’ to monitor the crowds in busy areas like Haridwar. This drone will provide real-time footage of ghats, bridges, and main roads, allowing authorities to respond swiftly to any incidents. The live feed will be constantly monitored by state and district emergency centers.

Advanced Disaster Management System-Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) has issued guidelines emphasizing the use of the IRS system. This system is designed to predict and mitigate potential disasters, enabling a proactive approach to crisis management. District administrations are instructed to plan their responses around this system for efficient crisis management.

Streamlined Communication for Swift Action-To ensure efficient coordination, each department will have a designated single point of contact. This will facilitate faster communication and decision-making during emergencies. The list of these contact persons will be shared with state and district control rooms to improve response times.

The ‘Sachet’ App: Your Weather Guide-The ‘Sachet’ app will provide real-time weather updates and alerts, crucial during the monsoon season. The app will be promoted at entry points with clear instructions and QR codes for easy download. This ensures that pilgrims are well-informed about weather conditions and can take necessary precautions.

Emergency Hotlines: Your Lifeline-Dedicated emergency numbers—112, 1070, and 1077—will be actively monitored throughout the yatra. These numbers will be widely publicized to provide immediate assistance to pilgrims and the general public. This ensures quick access to help in case of any emergency.

On-Ground Support: A Safety Net-Teams from SDRF, NDRF, and the water police, along with 60 disaster response volunteers, will be stationed at various ghats in Haridwar. Sensitive areas like Kanga Ghat will receive heightened security. Additional NDRF teams from Dehradun are on standby to provide immediate support if needed.
