The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has unveiled an ambitious plan to leverage the newly built infrastructure for the long-term benefit of Uttarakhand’s athletes.

Record-Breaking Performance at National Games- The National Games weren’t just a tournament; they marked a historic turning point for Uttarakhand’s sporting journey. For the first time, the state won over 100 medals, securing a remarkable 7th place in the medal tally. This achievement showcased not only the state’s burgeoning talent but also the government’s commitment and the athletes’ unwavering dedication. World-Class Facilities: Training Hubs for Uttarakhand’s Athletes- The state-of-the-art facilities built for the National Games are now being transformed into high-performance training centers. The Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun and the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Haldwani have been upgraded with modern amenities. Furthermore, the establishment of 23 sports academies across eight cities is a key part of the legacy plan, ensuring that young talents receive top-tier training close to home.

 New Sports Policy: Recognizing and Rewarding Athletes- Uttarakhand’s new sports policy, implemented in 2021, is already yielding impressive results. The policy offers attractive incentives, including government jobs, scholarships, and substantial awards. The announcement of a reward of up to two crore rupees for Olympic medalists has injected a renewed sense of enthusiasm among young athletes, motivating them to push their limits.

 A Premier Sports University in Haldwani- The proposed sports university in Haldwani will not only provide training to athletes but also offer courses in coaching, physiotherapy, sports management, and sports science. This institution will provide a strong institutional foundation for sports in the state and serve as a model for the rest of the country. It will be a center of excellence for training and education.
