Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission today approved electricity rates for the financial year 2025-26 for Chhattisgarh State Electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution Company Limited and Chhattisgarh State Load Dispatch Center. Distribution company MD Bhim Singh Kanwar said that in aggregate, the electricity rate has been increased by only 1.89 percent compared to last year, which is negligible. Rates have been increased in some items for agricultural consumers, the burden of which is borne by the state government, hence agricultural consumers will not have any additional burden. Apart from this, concessions have been increased or kept unchanged for temporary connections, tribal areas, puffed rice-poha industries, printing press etc.
The cost of electricity to Chhattisgarh State Electricity Company is Rs. 7.2 paise whereas electricity is supplied to domestic consumers at a minimum rate of Rs. 4.10 paise. Some features of the new electricity rates have been mentioned. Electricity rates for lower middle class domestic consumers have been increased by 10 paise per unit and rates for other domestic consumers have been increased by 20 paise per unit. Electricity used in cowsheds, Bastar and South Area Tribal Development Authority notified by the government and stay-homes in Surguja and North Area Development Authority areas have been included in the domestic consumer category for applying domestic electricity rates. Instead of 1.5 times the normal tariff, 1.25 times the normal tariff has been applied on temporary connections taken under the domestic consumer category.
To encourage the installation of mobile towers to strengthen the communication system in Left Wing Extremism affected districts notified by the state government, a provision of 10 percent discount in energy charges has been made for all mobile towers in these areas. Electricity rates for agricultural pumps have been increased by 50 paise per unit. Electricity bills of agricultural pumps are paid by the state government, hence the state government will bear this burden itself. Electricity rates for non-domestic consumers have been increased by 25 paise per unit and 1.25 times the normal tariff has been implemented on temporary connections taken under this category instead of 1.5 times the normal tariff. The 20 percent discount in energy charges for consumers with non-subsidized agricultural electric pumps has been increased to 30 percent. At present, the facility of using a load of 100 watts near the pump is effective under pump connections for the purpose of electric pumps installed in the fields and guarding the fields. Keeping in mind the wider interest of the farmers, the Commission has continued the approval of lights and fans up to 100 watts.
To encourage environmental protection, the tariff of electrical vehicle charging for low pressure electrical vehicle charging units has been fixed equal to the average electricity cost i.e. Rs. 7.02 per unit. The tariff of electrical vehicle charging for high pressure consumers has been fixed equal to the average electricity cost i.e. Rs. 6.32 per KVAH. In the release, it has been told that the Regulatory Commission has continued to provide 10 percent discount in energy charges to the industrial activities and business activities run by women self-help groups registered for women empowerment. The 5 percent discount being given in the energy charge of the prevailing electricity rates for hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centers operating in the rural areas of the state, Bastar and South Zone Tribal Development Authority and Surguja and North Zone Development Authority has been continued. The 5 percent discount in energy charge to Poha and Murmura mills has been increased to 10 percent. The 0.50 percent discount given to all consumers paying in advance has been increased to 1.25 percent. Offset printers and printing press consumers have been removed from non-domestic category and included in the industrial category, which is less than before. In this way, these new rates are beneficial and developmental for all priority category consumers including agriculture, rural and tribal. These can be called quite balanced and satisfactory.
