National news : Three leading TV News channels have been penalised

The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) has taken strict action against three leading television news channels – News18 India, Times Now Navbharat and Aaj Tak and ordered them to remove videos of several shows aired in the last two years. The direction comes in response to complaints of dissemination of material promoting hatred and communal disharmony.

Of the channels penalised, News18 India faced fines and takedown orders for three specific shows. The two shows, anchored by Aman Chopra and hosted by Amish Devgan, were found guilty of giving a communal colour to the Shraddha Walker case and labelling it “love jihad”.
Among the channels penalised, News18 India faced a fine of Rs 50,000 and an order to remove three specific shows. NBDSA imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Times Now Navbharat and up to Rs 75 thousand on Aaj Tak.
