Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 300 MW Nokhra Solar Project of NTPC Green Energy Limited to the nation today through video conferencing. Spread over 1,550 acres in Bikaner district of Rajasthan, the project is being implemented under the CPSU Scheme (Phase-II) with an investment of Rs 1,803 crore. This is to ensure green energy to Telangana state.
With a generation of 730 million units per year, the project will not only light more than 1.3 lakh homes but will also help limit 6 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions every year. Going forward, this project is expected to limit CO2 emissions by 15 million tonnes over a period of 25 years.
More than 13 lakh solar PV modules have been installed in this project under the government’s ambitious Make in India programme. This has strengthened the resolve of the Government of India for a self-reliant India.
NTPC is actively pursuing a ‘just transition’ by including more and more clean energy in its portfolio. The project will play an important role in reducing carbon emissions, thereby contributing to a clean and sustainable energy future.
NGEL is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC and aims to be the flag bearer of NTPC’s renewable energy journey. Its operational green energy capacity is over 3.4 GW and 26 GW is in process, of which 7 GW is about to become operational.
NTPC Limited is India’s largest integrated power utility with a capacity of 74 GW which contributes 25% of the total electricity generated in India. By 2032, NTPC wants to expand its non-fossil-based power capacity to 45%-50% of the company’s portfolio. This will include 60 GW of renewable energy capacity with a total portfolio of 130 GW. NTPC has partnered with NITI Aayog to strengthen India’s net zero efforts.
