The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 34 districts, with 14 districts bracing for extremely heavy downpours and 20 districts expecting heavy rainfall. The IMD predicts up to 8.5 inches of rain in these areas over the next 24 hours, potentially leading to overflowing rivers, streams, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. This weather event necessitates caution and preparedness from residents.
Bhopal: Water Bodies Overflowing, City Faces Inundation-Bhopal has experienced incessant rainfall over the past 48 hours, causing water levels in major water bodies to rise significantly. The Upper Lake’s water level has reached 1660.65 feet, while the Kolar and Kaliyasot dams are also seeing a steady increase in water levels. The downpour has led to waterlogging in many parts of the city, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to residents. A yellow alert has been issued for Bhopal, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. The local administration is actively monitoring the situation and taking measures to mitigate potential risks.
Rainfall Impact and Affected Districts-Over 25 districts experienced rainfall on Monday alone, according to IMD data. Shajapur recorded 1.5 inches of rainfall, while Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Pachmarhi, and Guna received 1 inch each. Other districts like Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Chhindwara also witnessed significant rainfall. The state has received 25.4 inches of rainfall this season, approximately 70% of the average seasonal rainfall. The continuous downpour has resulted in increased waterlogging complaints in both rural and urban areas, with authorities actively engaged in relief efforts.
