Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh has made an important place in the national sports map. The serious efforts of the state government, continuous expansion of sports infrastructure, qualitative improvement in the level of training and encouragement of players have achieved excellent results. Madhya Pradesh has become the sports hub of the country by running sports academies, sports awards, special scholarships for sports, cash awards to medal winning players and sports associations organizing sports competitions.
Under the Sports Academies Scheme, 11 academies of 18 sports are being run by the department. International level facilities are being provided by providing admission to 996 players in sports academies and feeder centers under the boarding and de-boarding scheme.
Three players from Madhya Pradesh, namely shooting player Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, hockey player Sushila Chanu, canoeing-kayaking para player Prachi Yadav, were honored with the Arjuna Award and hockey Olympian coach Shri Shivendra Singh was honored with the Dronacharya Award-2023 by the Government of India. The state of Madhya Pradesh has got this opportunity after 23 years, when three players from Madhya Pradesh were simultaneously honored with Arjuna Award and one coach was honored with Dronacharya Award. In the 37th National Games held in Goa, 416 players of Madhya Pradesh participated in 37 sports and got 112 medals (37-gold, 36-silver, 39-bronze) and stood fourth in the medal table. This has been the best performance of our players so far.
Khelo MP Youth Games
On the lines of Khelo India Youth Games-2022, Khelo MP Youth Games-2023 was organized in all the districts of Madhya Pradesh in the state, in which 1,20,105 players from Madhya Pradesh were represented. This event will be organized continuously every year. Nathu Barkheda Sports Science Center is being established to make Bhopal a sports hub and to increase sports tourism in Madhya Pradesh. In the first phase, it is proposed to construct a football stadium with athletics synthetic track and a pavilion with hockey synthetic turf. In the second phase, construction of “Indoor Sports Complex” is proposed and in the third phase, construction of an international level cricket stadium is proposed. For this, the department will spend Rs 985 crore 76 lakh.

Madhya Pradesh state is in the category of leading state in building international/national level sports infrastructure. 18 hockey turfs of international level have been constructed in Madhya Pradesh and 3 hockey turfs are under construction. Similarly, 10 athletics of international level are manufactured synthetically. 107 stadiums/sports training centers owned by the department are constructed and 56 are under construction.
After 37 years, 10 players from sports academies of Madhya Pradesh performed excellently in Tokyo Olympics-2020 and 10 players participated and won a bronze medal in men’s hockey. In order to represent the players of the Academy in large numbers in the upcoming Olympics, France (Paris) Games-2024, the players will be provided training abroad from foreign trainers for modern advanced training and foreign trainers will also be invited.
Under Maa Tujhe Pranam Yojana, in the month of June-2023, 909 youth of Madhya Pradesh were given an experience trip to Tanot Mata Ka Temple (Rajasthan), Wagah-Husseiniwala (Amritsar Punjab), Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu). Under the scheme, a target has been set to send 3,000 youth on field trips every year. World Cup (Rifle/Pistol), Asian Shotgun Shooting Championship and World Junior Athletics Championship are proposed to be organized in Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy, Bhopal in the coming months.
One District-One Sports Complex
We will start One District-One Sports Complex scheme in Madhya Pradesh. Under this, a sports complex will be constructed in every district. Breakdance Academy is being established. It is proposed to establish e-Sports Academy and Malkhamb and Gymnastic Academy in district Ujjain.
It is proposed to create sports infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh through Public Private Partnership Scheme. So that talented players of Madhya Pradesh can be selected in sports academies, minimum 5 feeder centers of each sports academy will be established. Efforts will be made to earn medals by participating as many players as possible from Madhya Pradesh in the National Games, Uttarakhand-2024 to be held in the month of October, 2024.
Efforts will be made for maximum participation of players from Madhya Pradesh in the Olympic Games-2024. Every year, excellent players will be appointed to 10 posts of Sub Inspector and 50 posts of Constable in the Police Department.
Under the One District-One Sports Complex scheme, keeping in view the future requirement, an action plan will be prepared to establish sports infrastructure in 4 categories of Rajbhogi cities, divisional headquarters, large district headquarters and small district headquarters. Information about sports competitions and registered players of sports associations will be made online.
