MP Budget Session 2025: Heated Debates Expected as Assembly Kicks Off

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Budget Session has officially begun, starting with Governor Mangubhai Patel’s address in the Assembly. However, before the session commenced, Congress MLAs arrived wearing black masks and holding placards, accusing the government of hiding from discussions and demanding an extension of the session. Congress members staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue, emphasizing that important public issues needed to be discussed in the Assembly. The session will include the presentation of the Economic Survey on March 11, followed by the state budget for 2025-26 on March 12. The budget is expected to exceed ₹4 lakh crore, with a strong focus on villages, the poor, youth, women, and farmers. Heated debates are likely, as the opposition gears up to corner the government on issues like corruption, law and order, and atrocities against SC-ST communities and women. In response, the government is expected to highlight its achievements, including the Global Investors Summit.

Supplementary Budget Over ₹11,000 Crore Expected

The 15-day budget session will have nine sittings. On Tuesday, the government will present a second supplementary budget for the remaining period of the 2024-25 fiscal year, which could exceed ₹11,000 crore. Finance Minister Jagdish Deora will unveil the 2025-26 state budget on Wednesday.

Special Provisions for Simhastha & Infrastructure Development

The budget is expected to include special provisions for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, with a strong focus on infrastructure development. Additionally, a QR code will be introduced with the budget documents, allowing people to scan and access details of government revenue, expenditures, and departmental allocations on their mobile phones.

Over 2,500 Pending Assurances

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed officials to ensure that pending assurances, committee reports, and zero-hour discussions receive timely responses. Notably, more than 2,500 promises made by the government in the Assembly are still pending.

Congress to Demand Clarification on Minister’s Controversial Remark

Meanwhile, Congress is gearing up to grill the government on issues like corruption, unemployment, inflation, law enforcement, and transport-related scams. The party will demand an explanation from Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel over his recent controversial remark referring to citizens as beggars. Additionally, Congress will question irregularities in the appointment of former transport department constable Saurabh Sharma, financial mismanagement in paddy procurement, and other alleged scams.

With both sides preparing for a showdown, the Budget Session is set to be intense and eventful.
