MG Astor 2025: Price Hike, New Features & Turbo Engine Removed – Here’s What’s Changing

MG Motor India has rolled out an update for the MG Astor 2025, bringing some price changes and new features. While some variants have become ₹38,000 more expensive, the company has surprisingly made the panoramic sunroof variant more affordable. In a big move, MG has also discontinued the 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine in India. Let’s break down what’s changed, what’s new, and how it affects your buying decision.
No More 1.3L Turbo-Petrol Engine – The 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine was the more powerful option in the MG Astor, delivering 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. It was paired with a torque converter automatic gearbox, making it a smooth and fun-to-drive choice. However, MG has now stopped offering this engine in India, which means buyers looking for extra punch will have to explore other options.
Now Comes Only with a 1.5L Petrol Engine – The Astor 2025 now runs solely on a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 110 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or an 8-step CVT automatic gearbox, depending on their driving preference. While this engine is reliable and fuel-efficient, it lacks the extra power that the turbo version offered.
New Features to Look Forward To – MG has added some new upgrades to keep the Astor fresh and appealing. Shine Variant (Entry-Level): Now comes with a panoramic sunroof and a six-speaker sound system to enhance the driving experience. Select Variant: Gets a safety boost with six airbags and premium ivory leatherette seats for a more comfortable ride. Upgraded Infotainment System: The latest i-SMART 2.0 system brings improved connectivity and smart features, making everyday driving more convenient.
Pricing & Rivals – The 2025 MG Astor is priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹17.56 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It continues to compete with some of the most popular SUVs in the segment. With these updates, MG is keeping the Astor in the race, despite removing the powerful turbo engine. Will the added features make up for the missing turbo option? That’s something buyers will decide.
