Make yourself and others in the society aware: ACS Smt. Shami

Bhopal: We are all consumers in some form or the other. Not everyone has comprehensive knowledge of consumer rights. It is our responsibility to make the society aware of consumer rights. Additional Chief Secretary Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Mrs. Rashmi Arun Shami said this at a state level program organized in Bhopal on World Consumer Rights Day.

Mrs. Shami said that at present most of the purchases are being made through e-platform. There should be information about what action can be taken if quality material is not available. Cases up to Rs 50 lakh are heard in District Consumer Protection Courts, cases from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore are heard in State Consumer Protection Commission and cases of more than this amount are heard in National Consumer Protection Commission. If the consumer is dissatisfied with the decision, he can appeal to the next level within 45 days. She urged social organizations to keep making consumers aware. Chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Food Commission, Mr. V.K. Malhotra said that awareness of consumers and sensitivity of those implementing the schemes is very important.

Registrar Madhya Pradesh Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission Mr. Shobhit Jain said that such workshops should be organized at divisional and district levels to make consumers aware. He also emphasized on making consumers aware about sustainable future and green footprint. Food Commissioner Mr. Karmveer Sharma informed that arrangements have also been made for online hearing in consumer courts. Through this, consumers can participate in the hearing from home. He also gave information about the rights given to consumers.

The guests gave the first prize of one lakh eleven thousand rupees to Jagrook Upbhokta Samiti Indore, an organization doing notable work in the field of consumer awareness, and the second prize of 51 thousand rupees to All India Utthan Sangathan Satna. The winner of the state level essay competition on the subject of consumer rights, Mr. Dharendra Marawi of Government Higher Secondary School Virsa, District Balaghat was given the first prize of 6 thousand rupees, Mr. Pawan Taktode of Government Secondary School No. 19 Naya Basera, District Indore was given the second prize of 4 thousand rupees and Ms. Heeral Dasondhi of Christina Convent Higher Secondary School Mahugaon, District Indore was given the third prize and a certificate of 2 thousand rupees. Similarly, the winner of the poster competition, Miss Poonam Bodde of Government Primary School 19 Naya Basera, District Indore, Indore was given the first prize of 6 thousand rupees, Miss Jharna Rahangdale of Government Higher Secondary School Birsa, District Balaghat was given the second prize of 4 thousand rupees and PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School, Mahugaon, District Indore was given the third prize of 2 thousand rupees. Miss Sejal Tekam of Baihar district Balaghat was given the third prize of Rs 2 thousand.

In the program, the guests observed the exhibitions related to consumer awareness organized by various departments. He awarded first prize to the exhibition of the weights and measures department, second prize to the exhibition of warehousing and third prize to the exhibition of food and drug administration.
