Mahendragarh School Bus Accident: Eight children killed, 13 injured

In Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, a terrible tragedy struck on Thursday morning when a school bus carrying around 30 children overturned near Unhani village. This heartbreaking incident resulted in the loss of eight young lives, with another 13 children sustaining injuries.

The bus, which belonged to GL Public School in Kanina, met with the accident when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle. Shockingly, the school had decided to remain open despite it being a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, transporting the injured children to various hospitals in Mahendragarh and Narnaul for urgent medical attention. Disturbingly, it was discovered that the bus’s fitness certificate had expired six years prior in 2018.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the bus driver was intoxicated, further adding to the tragedy. Authorities are conducting medical tests to confirm this allegation, while also investigating the responsibility of the school authorities in ensuring the safety of the children.

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased children and assured support for the injured. Meanwhile, Haryana’s education minister, Seema Trikha, has initiated an investigation into the matter and has instructed officials to visit the hospitals where the injured students are being treated.

As the community mourns the loss of young lives and prays for the swift recovery of the injured, questions regarding road safety and school transportation standards have been raised, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
