About 46 per cent of the CNG used in India is currently imported and the government aims to reduce this dependence through the production and consumption of bio-CNG. Bio CNG, also known as bio compressed natural gas. It is mainly used as a fuel for vehicles and domestic energy. It can also be used to fuel CNG vehicles, for cooking and heating as an alternative to LPG, for power generation, heating in some industries and for other processes. The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy estimates that India has a bio-CNG production capacity of about 70 million metric tonnes. Its production is in line with the market demand, making it economically viable.
What is BioCNG? BioCNG is produced by breaking down organic waste materials such as animal waste, food waste and industrial sludge into biogas and digestate. This process takes place in a sealed, oxygen-free tank, also known as an anaerobic digester. Then the biogas is processed, which gives 95 percent pure methane gas. High quality concentrated liquid fertilizer is obtained from this process. Tender process will be started within a month. According to the Urban Administration Department, land has been identified at eight places in the state. The tender process for this will be started soon. Work will be started within a month after finalizing the tender. After this, the construction process will be started.
