KL Rahul Won’t Be Delhi Capitals’ Captain, Says Former Wicketkeeper

Dinesh Karthik, the former Indian wicketkeeper and ex-Delhi Daredevils player, has revealed that KL Rahul will not be taking on the role of captain for Delhi Capitals. Rahul, who has already captained two IPL teams, was expected by many to lead Delhi in the upcoming IPL season. This speculation grew stronger after Delhi Capitals decided not to retain Rishabh Pant and also failed to buy him back at the auction. Instead, they signed KL Rahul, which led fans to believe that he would be handed the captaincy for IPL 2025.
Pant had been with Delhi since 2018 and took over as captain in 2022. However, his leadership didn’t bring the expected success for the team. Despite that, no one anticipated that Pant would be let go. In a recent interview, Karthik, who has played for Delhi in the IPL, shared that Rahul would not be the captain. According to Karthik, Axar Patel will take on the leadership role instead.
Speaking on Cricbuzz’s show, Karthik congratulated Axar Patel on being named vice-captain, calling it a great opportunity for him. Karthik also shared that Axar Patel is set to be the next captain of Delhi Capitals, giving him a great chance to lead the team. Karthik also acknowledged that Rahul has a wealth of captaincy experience, having previously led Lucknow Super Giants for three years and also captained Punjab Kings before that.
