KKR thrashed Hyderabad by 80 runs: IPL thriller

In the IPL match played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata yesterday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 80 runs. KKR’s batsmen and bowlers performed brilliantly, due to which Hyderabad’s team was completely shattered in front of the huge target of 200 runs.

KKR’s explosive batting – Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be absolutely correct. Hyderabad had a very bad start, De Kock was out after scoring 1 run and Sunil Narine was out after scoring 7 runs. After this, captain Ajinkya Rahane (38 runs, 27 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50 runs, 32 balls) handled the innings and took the team’s score to 97 runs. Raghuvanshi scored a brilliant half-century. But the real storm came in the form of Venkatesh Iyer (60 runs, 29 balls). Iyer broke the back of Hyderabad bowlers by playing a stormy innings of 60 runs in just 29 balls. Rinku Singh also contributed an unbeaten 32 runs, helping KKR score 200 runs for 6 wickets.

Hyderabad’s downfall – Chasing a huge target of 200 runs, Hyderabad had a bad start. Vaibhav Arora dismissed Travis Head (4) and Ishan Kishan (2) early. After this, wickets kept falling one after the other and Hyderabad batsmen could not withstand the pressure of 200 runs. Kamindu Mendis (27 runs) and Heinrich Klaasen (33 runs) struggled a bit, but the team was reduced to 120 runs in the 17th over. Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora took 3-3 wickets for KKR and led the team to victory. This is Hyderabad’s biggest defeat in IPL history.
