Kalinga University celebrates 78th Independence Day

India celebrates its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, a day that commemorates India’s liberation from British colonial rule on August 15, 1947, after a long struggle for independence.

Independence Day is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters who tirelessly fought for the country’s independence.

Kalinga University celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great zeal and patriotic spirit. The celebrations were held across the university campus, with students, faculty and staff coming together to honour the country’s independence and reflect on its journey over the past 78 years.

The programme commenced at 9:00 am with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, International Rangoli Artist, Cultural Activist and Social Entrepreneur Shri Pramod Sahu. Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Sridhar, Registrar Dr. Sandeep Gandhi, Dean Student Welfare and NCC Officer Lieutenant Vibha Chandrakar, Dean Dean Student Welfare Dr. A. Vijayanand, Deputy Dean Student Welfare Shri Sheikh Abdul Qadir, members of the Kalinga family and students were present on the occasion. The entire campus reverberated with the singing of the National Anthem followed by a series of cultural presentations by the students which showcased the rich cultural heritage of India.

The cultural programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries in the auditorium of the University followed by a captivating welcome dance performance by Ms. Ananta Kumar, a student of B.A. General III Semester.

In his informative lecture, Vice Chancellor Dr. R. Sridhar spoke about the state of India before the colonial period and the occupation of the country by the British Empire. He highlighted the freedom struggle and the contribution of freedom fighters.

In his address, Shri Pramod Sahu highlighted the significance of Independence Day and urged the students to make a positive contribution to the development of the country. He emphasized the importance of education in shaping the future of the country and encouraged the students to uphold the values ​​of freedom, unity and integrity.

Shri Ankur Kunal, a student of 4th semester of B.Tech. Computer Science (BTCS), performed a patriotic song followed by a dance performance by Ms. Manashree Pillai, a student of 3rd semester of M.Sc., Forensic Science. Shri Tomesh Khunte, a student of 7th semester of BTCS, performed a dance performance. Dr. A. Rajasekhar, Faculty of Kalinga University, presented patriotic poems and instilled the spirit of patriotism among the participants.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Lt. Vibha Chandrakar, who expressed her gratitude to all the participants and attendees for making the function memorable.

Kalinga University is committed to fostering a sense of national pride and responsibility in its students, and this Independence Day function was a testimony to that commitment. Snacks and sweets were distributed to the participants.
