Raipur. 2 June 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Arun Sao today inaugurated the ‘Green Swachhata Abhiyan’ at the Telibandha pond in Raipur at the state level. Under the campaign, people will be motivated and made aware to end plastic pollution. This campaign will be conducted across the state. On this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister flagged off the walkathon organized for cleanliness awareness. He administered oath to the people present in the program to make Raipur a plastic free city. Sao and other guests gave the message of cleanliness by sweeping the banks of the Telibandha pond and inspired to include cleanliness in the daily routine. Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap, MLAs Motilal Sahu, Purandar Mishra, Anuj Sharma and Mayor Mrs. Meenal Chaubey also attended the inauguration program. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, while inaugurating the five-day “Green India-Clean India” campaign organized on the instructions of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, said that the environment has a great impact on our lives. Environmental protection is a big challenge in the world today. Under the resolution of ‘Green India-Clean India’, we will work with determination towards making Raipur and the entire state plastic free. It is the responsibility of all of us to make Raipur plastic free because the message of awareness goes from the capital to the entire state.

Deputy Chief Minister Sao said that India is the fifth largest country in the world to produce plastic waste. About 26 thousand tonnes of plastic waste is generated in the country every day. A large part of this plastic is not collected properly, due to which rivers get polluted, drains get blocked, soil gets contaminated and animals that eat it by mistake get harmed. Movements like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have encouraged citizens to clean their surroundings and manage waste better. India too is working hard to solve this problem. The government has banned several single-use plastic items like plastic straws, cutlery and polythene bags. Innovations in this direction are happening across the country. Cities like Pune, Chennai and Indore are building roads using recycled plastic, thereby strengthening roads and reducing plastic waste.

Deputy Chief Minister Sao inaugurated kiosks set up by women self-help groups for distribution of cloth bags at the venue. Five fabric bag distribution kiosks have been set up at Telibandha pond complex with the support of DAY-NULM and participation of self-help groups to prevent the use of polythene. At the kiosks, women presented cloth bags to the Deputy Chief Minister and other guests. As part of the five-day “Green India-Clean India” campaign running till June 5, RRR has been set up. (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centers will also play an important role. Saw appealed to the citizens to donate clothes, books and household electronic equipment to these RRR centers and play their role in making Raipur clean and green. Chhattisgarh is one of the states with the largest forest area in the country. On the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, this year we have set a target of planting 2.75 crore saplings. In the last few years, we are witnessing an increase in our forest area, which is a matter of happiness. This is an important event for public awareness in urban areas because the resolution of making a clean ward and a clean city is fulfilled by a clean house.
