IPS Kewal Khurana Passes Away After Prolonged Illness, Uttarakhand Police Mourns the Loss Senior IPS officer Kewal Khurana, from the 2005 Uttarakhand cadre, passed away after a prolonged illness. He had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi. His untimely demise has left the police department in deep sorrow. Kewal Khurana had been unwell for a long time and was battling cancer. According to reports, he took his last breath at Max Hospital in Saket, Delhi. At the time of his passing, he was serving as IG Training. A 2005-batch IPS officer, Khurana was known for his sharp decision-making and dedication to service. Throughout his career, he held several key positions. In 2013, he served as the police chief of Dehradun, where he made crucial decisions to improve the city’s traffic system—measures that are still remembered today.

He also held command in multiple districts and became Uttarakhand’s first Traffic Director. Over the years, he served in significant roles such as Traffic Director and Commandant General of Home Guards. He played an important role in police reforms and boosting the morale of home guards. On February 29, 2020, under his leadership, the Uttarakhand Traffic Eye App was launched, which was later integrated into the Uttarakhand Police App. The app gained popularity for being highly useful to the public. In 2022, he was honored with the FICCI Smart Policing Award for his contributions. As IG Training, he also took a major initiative to replace Urdu legal terms in IPC and CrPC with simpler Hindi words, making the curriculum more accessible. Apart from his contributions to policing, he had a keen interest in literature as well. His passing is a huge loss to the police force and the people of Uttarakhand.
