Voting for general elections is taking place in Pakistan on Thursday. Voting began at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm. It is being claimed that former PM Nawaz Sharif, who is leading in the race for the post of Prime Minister, has the support of the Army. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is still in jail. In such a situation, Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) can emerge as the largest party in the elections.
Imran Khan cast his vote from jail
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a pre-recorded message asked the public to exercise their voting rights. Imran Khan, 71, and other jailed prominent political figures cast their votes through postal ballot from Adiala jail. Whereas former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhary Pervez Ilahi, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid, former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary sent their votes by post. Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi could not take part in the voting.
Voting continues amid allegations of rigging
Voting for the general elections in Pakistan began at 8 am on Thursday. A large number of people are taking part in it. Counting of votes will begin immediately after completion of voting. Meanwhile, the country’s caretaker government said that due to the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan, mobile services have been temporarily suspended. There are also reports that phone services have also been affected in some cities including Karachi and Peshawar.
