International News : Case of Indians receiving ransom threats, investigation started
Recently in Canada, there was a case of people of Indian origin receiving threatening ransom calls. Now news has come that the Canadian Police has formed a national level team, which will investigate these cases. The National Coordination and Support Team of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is working with police in the states of British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta to investigate these incidents. In these three states alone, there were reports of leaders of Indian and South Asian origin receiving ransom threats.
Canadian Police claims – it is a case of organized crime
A top Canadian police official said that the investigation team is probing the motive behind the threatening ransom call. He said that this case is related to organized crime. Last few months, people of South Asian origin, especially people of Indian origin, in Canada had received threatening ransom calls. Many complaints were registered in this matter. After the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, attacks against people of Indian origin, especially Hindus, have increased in Canada. Many Hindu temples have also been targeted.
There was firing at the houses of people of Indian origin
There were also incidents of firing at the houses of some people of Indian origin. The criminals had called and demanded a ransom of 2 million dollars from the people in exchange for security. In November last year, Canadian police had claimed that an Indian criminal gang is behind these incidents, which is targeting people of South Asian origin in Canada. In December last year, there was an incident of firing at the house of the son of the President of Vedic Hindu Cultural Society in Canada. Canadian Police had arrested two people in this case. However, both were later released after interrogation.
