Mexico City. At least 19 people were killed when a double-decker passenger bus collided with a trailer on the Mazatlan-Culiacán highway in northern Mexico. Sinaloa state Attorney General Sara Bruna Quinonez Estrada confirmed the incident. This accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday.

“We still do not have the total number of people traveling,” the head of the office of the attorney general of Sinaloa state said in a message posted on the social media platform X. We are just in the process of comparing it with the company’s list.

He said that after the collision the bus caught fire and the bodies were so burnt that they could not be identified. Therefore, it will take time to verify the identities of the victims.

In a later statement the government of Sinaloa said the bus was traveling between Guadalajara and Los Mochis. The accident occurred at 5:15 am local time on Tuesday.

According to local media reports, the trailer overturned on the road after the bus collided, causing both the vehicles to catch fire. The cause of the accident has not been known.
