Indian Naval Ship Tabar reached Alexandria, Egypt

Indian Navy’s flagship warship INS Tabar arrived at the historic port city of Alexandria, Egypt for a goodwill visit from 27 to 30 June 2024 as part of its deployment to Africa and Europe.

India and Egypt have shared a rich heritage of cultural and economic ties with each other for many centuries. These relations have become even stronger in the modern era. Bilateral relations between the two countries have expanded in various fields including defense and maritime cooperation in recent years. The visit of Indian Naval Ship Tabar to Alexandria is aimed at further expanding bilateral relations with Egypt as well as reaffirming India’s commitment to enhance various aspects of maritime security.

INS Tabar is an important and special capabilities warship built for the Indian Navy in Russia. The ship is commanded by Captain MR Harish and has 280 personnel on board. INS Tabar is equipped with a wide range of weapons and sensors and is one of the earliest stealth frigate warships of the Indian Navy. The ship is based in Mumbai as part of the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command.

During its three-day stay at Alexandria, the crew of the ship will undertake a number of professional interactions with the Egyptian Navy apart from some social activities. Thereafter, the two navies will complete the port phase of the exercise through a significant exercise involving military activities at sea or “PASSEX”. All these joint activities are aimed at promoting commonalities in various modus operandi adopted by the two navies as well as broadening the scope of interaction between the two navies, which can greatly help in taking joint action against commonly encountered maritime threats.
