IND vs AUS: Australia Makes Changes Before the Second Test, Adding a Dangerous All-Rounder
IND vs AUS: Australia has decided to shake things up for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be played with a pink ball in Adelaide starting on December 6. They are preparing to include uncapped fast-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster in their squad. According to a report from News Corp on Wednesday, Webster has been selected as a cover for fellow all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is struggling with an injury after the first match of the series. In that match, Australia faced a heavy defeat against India, losing by 295 runs at the Perth Stadium within just four days.
There is a ten-day gap between the first and second Tests. However, if Marsh is not fit in time for the Adelaide game after bowling more than ten overs in Perth, Webster could become the 468th male Test cricketer for Australia. Following the loss in Perth, head coach Andrew McDonald commented, “Is he okay? We will wait and see. We knew Mitchell Marsh was in a bit of trouble, but I thought his performance in the first innings was satisfactory.”
Webster has been in good form, scoring 61 and 49 runs, and he also had a strong bowling performance in a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, taking 3/81 and 2/25 against New South Wales, helping Tasmania secure their first win of the season. Since the start of the 2022/23 season, Webster has amassed 1,788 runs at an average of 51.08, including five centuries and nine half-centuries. He also took 30 wickets at an average of 29.30 in the last Sheffield Shield season. Recently, he scored 145 runs and took seven wickets in a 2-0 series win for Australia A against India A. After the match in Sydney, Tasmania’s captain Jordan Silk praised Webster, saying, “He is a special player right now. Whenever I feel we are in trouble, I think I can throw him the ball, and he can make something happen. Similarly, when we are struggling with the bat, he is capable of getting us out of that situation.”
