In MP’s Sheopur, a girl lost her life due to hunger, her weight was only 2.5 kg

Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): The government may be running several schemes to eliminate malnutrition among children, but the ground reality is different. A one-and-a-half-year-old girl Radhika, who was registered in a very weak condition in an Anganwadi in Sheopur district, died. Radhika was the daughter of Narpat Adivasi and weighed only 2.5 kg, whereas children of this age should usually weigh 10 to 11.5 kg. Radhika’s mother says that everything was fine when the girl was born, but within three months her condition deteriorated so much that her hands and feet became completely dry. She kept getting weaker. The Women and Child Development Department has not said anything about this tragic incident so far, everyone is silent.

Radhika’s mother Bhuri Adivasi said that an Anganwadi worker took her to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center of the District Hospital at 1 pm on April 22. When the grandparents reached the hospital from the village in the afternoon, the girl was shifted to the children’s ward. Bhuri said that Radhika was not able to breathe properly. She was neither able to drink milk nor swallow water. Even after being admitted to the hospital for four days, there was no significant improvement in her health. Then late at night she died. Bhuri also said that the Anganwadi people came only to measure the weight of the girl, but nothing was given to her to eat or drink. Civil surgeon Dr. RB Goyal said that the girl weighed about two and a half kilos and the Anganwadi worker had taken her to the nutrition center. Her condition was very bad, so she was admitted to the special ward for children and given treatment.
