“I cannot see, but when I hear the sound of water falling from the tap, I feel very relaxed.”

Raipur. 17 April 2025: “I cannot see… but when I hear the sound of water falling from the tap, my mind feels very relaxed. It feels as if a dream has come true.” Kosi Bai, a blind woman from village Kader, 40 km from the district headquarters Narayanpur, is expressing her feelings in these words when water is provided through tap in her house through Jal Jeevan Mission. Her husband Mura Ram Nuruti, who is handicapped in one leg, is very happy with the tap installed at home. He says emotionally – “I could not even imagine that a day would come when we would get tap water in our own house. Now we do not have to bear the trouble of bringing water from Jharia. My heart becomes happy to see water falling from the tap into the vessel in our own house.”

This story of Kosi Bai and Mura Ram of remote Kader village of Bastar region tells how Jal Jeevan Mission is changing the lives of people. The flow of water reaching the courtyard of every house has freed them from a big daily worry. Their story also tells that when schemes are implemented effectively, they change the lives of people, just like a dream… Today, tap water is reaching every house in village Kader. People here feel that the flow of development has really reached their doorstep. Under Jal Jeevan Mission, three solar water tanks have been constructed in Kader and a 4700 meter long pipeline has been laid. Now pure drinking water is being supplied to every house in the village. Like other families of the village, Jal Jeevan Mission has brought a big change for Kosi Bai and Mura Ram too. Due to the water problem in the village, Divyang Mura Ram had to bring water from Jharia every day by carrying a Kanwar. Arranging water every day for a family of four was very painful for him. But now Jal Jeevan Mission has relieved him from this problem. Now he is getting sufficient water from the tap at home every day.
