How Can Team India Reach the WTC Final?

Team India still has a chance to secure a spot in the WTC Final on their own. However, there are also scenarios where they will need to rely on the results of other teams. Even though Team India lost the three-match Test series at home 3-0, they are still in the race to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. In fact, the Indian team can still qualify directly for the WTC on their own. There are also situations where they will depend on the outcomes of other teams. Here’s how Rohit Sharma’s team can make it to the final:

To qualify for the final on their own, Team India needs to win at least 3-0 in the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia. If two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy end in a draw and India wins three, they can easily reach the WTC Final. Winning four matches with one draw will also allow India to qualify directly. Additionally, a 4-1 victory will secure their spot in the final, and a 5-0 win guarantees it. Currently, Team India is at the top of the WTC points table, with South Africa in second place.

When will the team depend on other teams? If India wins the series against Australia 3-1, they will need to hope that South Africa beats Sri Lanka in their second Test match at home. There’s also a scenario for a 3-2 win. If the scoreline of the India vs. Australia Test series is this, India will need to hope that Sri Lanka draws at least one of the two matches against Australia. Furthermore, if the result is 2-2, India will have to wish for South Africa to defeat Sri Lanka 2-0, and then for Sri Lanka to win at least 1-0 in their Test series against Australia. In this case, India will also qualify for the WTC Final.
