It is raining heavily in many states of North West India including the national capital. Badrinath National Highway has been closed due to landslide in Uttarakhand. 64 roads have been closed for traffic due to debris falling due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Northeast states are also receiving heavy rainfall. The situation has become serious due to severe floods in Assam and more than 22 lakh people have been affected in 29 districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has predicted torrential rains in North West and East India for the next two days and has issued an alert to 16 states.

The India Meteorological Department said on Friday that during the last 24 hours, heavy rains occurred at different places in East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam and Meghalaya. Apart from this, heavy rains were recorded at some places in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa. Traffic on the Badrinath National Highway was closed due to debris falling on Bhanerpani-Pipalkoti Naga Panchayat Road and Angthala Road in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The Gomukh footpath bridge was washed away due to heavy rains in Devgarh of Gangotri. Due to this, 30-40 pilgrims were trapped. SDRF helped the pilgrims cross the river. Two people died due to drowning in rain water filled in potholes in Dehradun and Haridwar.
