Government service empowerment is a good opportunity to follow human religion: Governor Patel
Bhopal. Representatives of the National Training Program under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission met Governor Mangubhai Patel at the Raj Bhavan. The delegation included participants of the two-day training program under the National Sickle Cell Mission. The participants included officials of the health department of the states, senior managers and sickle cell disease specialists. The delegation included representatives from the states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Governor’s Principal Secretary Mukesh Chand Gupta was also present on this occasion.
Governor Mangubhai Patel said that government service empowerment is a good opportunity to follow human religion. What is needed is a sensitive sympathetic approach. He said that he himself is also fulfilling the responsibility of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh with the same feeling. His resolution of humanity is to serve sickle cell patients. He said that focus should be on public awareness regarding sickle cell disease. Information should be given in the language of the community about getting screened, pregnancy and newborn baby tested. Public awareness is also necessary about instructions related to marriage. He said that it is also necessary to certify the role of Ayurveda and Homeopathy in the possibilities of sickle cell disease treatment.
Managing Director National Health Mission Ms. Priyanka Das, while giving information to the delegation about the Hemoglobinopathy Mission, said that work is being done under the mission in the state since the year 2021. The work has been started with a pilot project in Alirajpur and Jhabua districts. Based on the experiences of the project, the age limit for screening was increased. Arrangements were made for screening of newborns and pregnant women and going among the community along with schools, Anganwadis, hostels and colleges through POC kits. He said that cards are being prepared and distributed for genetic counseling of the community. Counseling groups are being formed. Treatment cards are also being provided for regular care of the health of sickle cell patients. He informed that with the support of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs of the Central Government, a centre for the treatment of complications of sickle cell disease is being developed at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre and a centre of competence for newborn screening is being developed at Medical College, Indore.
