Government exempted parboiled rice and brown rice from export duty

The central government has exempted parboiled rice and brown rice from export duty. The Finance Ministry issued a notification late on Tuesday night informing about this. According to the notification, the export duty on parboiled rice, brown rice and paddy has been reduced from 10 percent to “zero”. This exemption became effective from October 22.

According to sources, the Election Commission has approved this duty cut, provided no political advantage is taken from it. Elections are due in Jharkhand and Maharashtra next month.

Last month, the government exempted non-Basmati white rice from export duty. Apart from this, the export duty on parboiled rice, brown rice and paddy was also reduced from 20 percent to 10 percent.

At the same time, the minimum export price of Basmati rice has also been abolished to promote exports and increase the income of farmers.
