Gaja Ghantakarn Mahotsav 2025: This festival of Tehri has become a new example of culture, development and self-reliance

Celebrating Tradition and Progress: The First Ghantakarn Mahotsav in Gaja- This year marked a special occasion in Gaja, Tehri district, Uttarakhand, with the inauguration of the first ever Ghantakarn Mahotsav. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself graced the event, held at the Atal Utkrishta Rajkiya Inter College.

 A Festival of Culture and Devotion- The Mahotsav began with a prayer ceremony at the Ghantakarn Temple, where the Chief Minister offered prayers for the prosperity of the state and paid homage to freedom fighter Belmati Chauhan. The festival is more than just a celebration; it’s a powerful way to showcase Uttarakhand’s rich heritage and cultural traditions, attracting tourists and boosting the local economy. The Ghantakarn Temple, a site of significant religious importance, is the second most important pilgrimage site after Badrinath, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas and Haridwar.

 Building a Brighter Future for Gaja- CM Dhami emphasized the government’s commitment to rural development, highlighting the importance of strengthening villages, panchayats, and districts to achieve Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. The Ghantakarn Mahotsav is a testament to this commitment. This festival will not only boost the local economy but also showcase the unique cultural heritage of the region.

 Development Initiatives Transforming Gaja- The government’s commitment to Gaja’s development is evident in significant investments. A new polytechnic college (₹30 crore) and the Henvalghati drinking water scheme (₹24 crore) are underway. Furthermore, projects like a new Nagar Panchayat office, a rest house, and a gaushala are also in progress, all aimed at improving the lives of local residents and providing much-needed infrastructure.

 Empowering Women Through Local Products- Initiatives like ‘One District One Product’ and ‘House of Himalayas’ are providing a platform for local artisans, particularly women’s self-help groups, to showcase and sell their products. This not only boosts their economic independence but also helps preserve traditional crafts. These women are now successfully competing with larger companies, demonstrating their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.

Uttarakhand’s Bold Steps Towards Progress- The Uttarakhand government has taken several significant steps, including the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), anti-copying laws, anti-conversion laws, and stricter land laws. A zero-tolerance policy towards corruption has led to strong action against corrupt officials, with over 100 people jailed for exam malpractice.

New Opportunities for Uttarakhand’s Youth- Transparent government policies have resulted in increased employment opportunities for Uttarakhand’s youth. Around 23,000 young people have secured government jobs, instilling confidence in the future and fostering a sense of hope among the younger generation. The government continues to work towards creating more opportunities for employment and growth.
