Farmers should get the benefit of irrigation projects: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai

Instructions given to make special efforts to increase the efficiency of water use
Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of Water Resources Department
Raipur 12 May 2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today conducted an in-depth review of the works of the Water Resources Department at the Chief Minister’s residence office with the aim of strengthening the irrigation infrastructure of the state. He said that special attention should be paid to the maintenance and repair of the existing irrigation projects of the state. Chief Minister Sai directed senior departmental officers to visit the field regularly and to prevent water wastage as well as ensure that maximum use of water is made in agricultural works.
Chief Minister Sai reviewed the water filling capacity of all the dams in the state, current irrigation status and progress of upcoming projects. He said that the use of modern technologies is necessary to prevent loss in water transportation through canals. Chief Minister Sai directed to prepare necessary action plan through underground pipeline system to increase the efficiency of water use. Along with this, instructions were also given to prepare a concrete action plan to reduce the difference between the designed irrigation capacity and actual capacity in irrigation schemes. Chief Minister Sai said that necessary action should be taken to complete the long pending projects in Bastar and Surguja divisions.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai directed to complete the major projects under construction soon so that farmers can get the benefit of the scheme on time. He asked to prepare the necessary proposals as soon as possible to get financial assistance from the Government of India in big projects. The Chief Minister also directed to prepare proposals for the construction of projects in 26 development blocks declared critical/semi critical in terms of groundwater in the state. On this occasion, Water Resources Minister Kedar Kashyap gave instructions regarding the early completion of major projects under construction. In the meeting, Secretary Water Resources Department Rajesh Sukumar Toppo gave information about the departmental activities and also informed the Chief Minister about the ongoing and proposed irrigation schemes. Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Subodh Singh, Special Secretary Finance Mrs. Sheetal Shashwat Verma, Chief Engineer Indrajit Uike and other senior officers of the Water Resources Department were present in the meeting.
