Famous Uttarakhand Comedian Ghanna Bhai Passes Away at 72
Renowned Uttarakhand folk comedian Ghannanand, popularly known as Ghanna Bhai, is no more. He breathed his last at the age of 72 at Indresh Hospital in Dehradun. He passed away due to cardiac arrest. Ghanna Bhai had been unwell for quite some time, and his health had deteriorated further in recent days. He was admitted to Indresh Hospital, where he had been on a ventilator for the past four days. His demise has left the people of Uttarakhand in mourning.
Hospital Confirms Ghanna Bhai’s Passing
The management at Mahant Indresh Hospital has confirmed his passing. According to Balbir Singh Panwar, chief patron of the “Awaaz Suno Pahadon Ki” program, and organizer Narendra Rauthan, Ghanna Bhai had previously undergone a pacemaker implant and had been regularly visiting the hospital for heart check-ups. A few days ago, he experienced blood in his urine and went to the hospital for a check-up. His condition worsened after a blood transfusion, leading to his untimely demise. His passing has left a wave of sorrow across the state.
A Celebrated Career in Films and Theatre
A veteran of the stage, Ghanna Bhai was born in 1953 in Gagod village, Pauri. He completed his education from the Cantt Board Lansdowne in Pauri Garhwal. His journey as a comedian began in 1970 when he started performing in Ramleela plays. In 1974, he expanded his reach to radio and Doordarshan, where he participated in multiple shows. Over the years, he acted in several Garhwali films and music albums, gaining immense popularity.
Political Aspirations
Ghanna Bhai also tried his hand at politics. In 2012, he contested the Uttarakhand Assembly elections from Pauri on a BJP ticket but was unsuccessful. He once again sought a BJP ticket in 2022 but could not secure a nomination. His passing marks the end of an era in Uttarakhand’s folk comedy scene, leaving a void in the hearts of his fans.
