Electric vehicle sales increased by 55 percent

Amid a huge decline of 19 percent in passenger vehicles, retail sales of electric cars (e-cars) also declined on a monthly and annual basis in September 2024. However, sales of other categories of vehicles have seen a growth of up to 55 percent.

According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), a total of 5,874 e-cars were sold across the country in September. This figure is 7.76 percent less than the 6,368 e-cars sold in September 2023 and 7.32 percent less than the 6,338 units in August 2024.

However, sales of e-two-wheelers increased by 40.45 percent year-on-year and 1.74 percent on a monthly basis to 90,007 units last month. Sales of e-three-wheelers increased by 9.30 percent and 3.55 percent respectively to 62,889 units. During this period, a total of 855 e-commercial vehicles were sold across the country. This figure is 54.61 percent more than September 2023 and 27.04 percent more than August 2024.

Market share jump

Despite the decline in sales, the market share of e-cars increased by 0.2 percent to 2.1 percent in September.

The market share of e-two-wheelers increased by 2.6 percent and 0.9 percent on annual and monthly basis respectively to reach 7.5 percent.

The market share of e-three-wheelers increased to 59 percent. E-commercial vehicles have also increased to 1.15 percent.
